Indoor Plants for Beginners
Aside from their captivating beauty, houseplants have many amazing benefits. In terms of interior spaces, they serve as beautiful additions that soften the appearance of any area while also contributing to the comfort & well-being of our surroundings. This, in turn, has a positive impact on spaces and on our energy overall.
Indoor plants have the remarkable ability to reduce stress, enhance creativity, and eliminate air pollutants, among other things. They greatly improve our indoor air quality, filtering it naturally and leaving our homes cleaner and more purified. According to years of research, plants are highly effective at filtering potentially harmful volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as benzene, formaldehyde, and xylene, which are commonly found in the air. Plants play a significant role in improving air quality since they absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen through photosynthesis, making them the perfect cohabitants with humans. They also release moisture vapor as part of their photosynthesis process, thereby increasing the humidity of the air. It is worth noting that plants have been found to release around 97% of the water they absorb.
Plants are sacred and reflect the true creativity of a Higher Being, showcasing the unity of all life. They bring balance to our physical and spiritual worlds by healing and connecting our bodies and minds.
I firmly believe in our deep interconnection with nature. Plants enhance our focus and creativity while also providing us with food, remedies, sedatives, pain relievers, stimulants, and even entry points into altered states of consciousness. At times, we hesitate to bring plants into our lives due to the commitment and care they require. We may feel uncertain about where to start, which plants to choose, or where to position them in our homes. If you are someone looking to embark on the journey of becoming a plant parent, remember that it necessitates patience, grace, forgiveness, and the ability to let go while maintaining faith.
When selecting low-maintenance plants, it’s generally recommended to go for those with deep green leaves as they thrive in low to medium-light conditions and require less frequent watering. Drawing from my extensive experience as a plant enthusiast and researcher, as well as my family's long-standing tradition of cultivating indoor and outdoor plants, flowers, and gardens, I highly recommend the following ten houseplants that are easy to care for, enjoyable, refreshing, and forgiving.
